Intro to Pistol mounted optics
(2day /16 hours)
Class Description
Introduction to Pistol-Mounted Red Dot Optics for Law Enforcement or new user. Course Description: This course provides law enforcement officers with a comprehensive introduction to pistol-mounted red dot optics (PMRDO). As agencies transition from traditional iron sights to slide-mounted electronic optics, officers must develop the technical understanding and performance skills necessary to deploy these systems safely, efficiently, and effectively in duty environments. The course covers optic design and function, mounting considerations, zeroing procedures, maintenance protocols, and policy considerations specific to law enforcement use. Officers will learn the fundamental differences between iron sight and red dot visual processing, target-focused shooting principles, presentation mechanics, and recoil management techniques necessary to maximize the advantages of red dot systems. Through structured dry-fire drills and live-fire exercises, participants will develop proficiency in: Efficient dot acquisition from the holster Target-focused shooting Confirming and maintaining zero Shooting at distance with enhanced precision Failure mitigation and optic occlusion techniques One-handed shooting considerations Transitioning between optics and backup iron sights (if equipped) Instruction emphasizes duty-relevant application, including patrol carry, low-light considerations, environmental challenges, and real-world engagement distances. Performance standards are evaluated through progressive skill assessments and qualification drills. Upon completion, officers will demonstrate safe handling, proper zero confirmation, consistent dot acquisition, and improved accuracy at extended ranges compared to iron sight performance.
