Close Quarters Readiness
Prepared movement. Clear decisions. Safer outcomes.
Class Description
This is a foundational course designed for prepared civilians and police officers who want to better understand the challenges of operating in confined environments. Close quarters problems are different from open-area encounters: distance is limited, decision-making time is compressed, and movement through homes, businesses, hallways, and rooms requires discipline, awareness, and sound judgment. This course focuses on practical principles for safer movement, communication, threat recognition, and decision-making inside structures. Students will learn how confined spaces affect visibility, reaction time, positioning, and problem-solving, while developing a better understanding of how to work around corners, doorways, thresholds, and unknown areas. For civilians, the class emphasizes responsible home-defense considerations, family safety, and the importance of making smart decisions before movement becomes necessary. For patrol officers, the course reinforces concepts applicable to building-related calls, alarms, open doors, suspicious persons, and other situations where officers may need to assess and navigate interior spaces. This is a no-live-fire course. Training is conducted with cleared firearms, inert training weapons, or other approved non-firing training tools. This allows students to focus on the fundamentals of close quarters problem-solving in realistic environments without the need for a live-fire range. Students must supply training weapons. If you don’t own any they can be supplied for an additional fee per person. Pistols, Rifles and shotguns are acceptable for use depending on the preference of the student. To host this class, a suitable residential or commercial space is required. The location must allow the use of cleared weapons or approved training weapons and should include features such as rooms, hallways, doorways, corners, or similar interior spaces that support realistic instruction. No live ammunition is used during training evolutions. Private classes available, minimum of two students maximum of ten. The goal of this class is not to promote reckless searching or unnecessary confrontation, but to help students develop a more thoughtful, controlled, and safety-focused approach to close quarters situations. Through lecture, demonstration, dry practice, and guided exercises, students will leave with a stronger understanding of how to make better decisions when distance disappears and the environment becomes part of the problem.
